Zimmerman Missions

Patan Hospital Kathmandu, Nepal

Zimmerman Family

Dr. Zimmerman went from a practicing doctor to the hospital administrator at Patan Hospital, a 700-bed facility in Kathmandu. Twelve years ago, he got the opportunity to help found an organization that supports hospitals in very remote areas of the country. In the summer of 2016, he returned to work at Patan Hospital in both patient care and teaching students at the medical school, now located there.

His wife, Deirdre has spent the past five years working as a consultant to the hospital and in a community nutrition program. Her recent work produced the hiring of two new Nepali staff members for the dietetics department. It serves surgical, medical and pediatric wards and an outpatient clinic at Patan Hospital. She continues her work establishing department standards and protocols.

Shopping Card Program

The gift card program started in the fall of 2010. In 2016, it became the shopping card program to encourage the use of cards for everyday budget purchases. We became a Missions outreach program in 2018. The first $3,000 goes to the ministry of Dr. Mark and Deirdre Zimmerman in Nepal; any additional funds will support MUMC Outreach locally.
